Covid-19 Update 10-3-2020

Governor’s Order Changes Nothing in Pinellas County and Many Other Areas

With a big news conference and plenty of coverage Governor Ron DeSantis announced that he was “opening up restaurants across the state”. In fact, he failed to mention that his order was subject to local orders already in place.

The order is here. If you look at section 3B. it states, B. Nothing in this order preempts or supersedes a non-COVID-19 municipal or county order. The next question was, exactly what does that mean? We found out very quickly when Pinellas County sent this notice to all reputable businesses! Specifically it said:

  • Face coverings still required in indoor public places

  • Bar and restaurant customers must be seated to be served

Plus we must still comply with social distancing for tables, which means restaurant capacity is still limited.
Unfortunately, many people thought the whole state was wide open, took off their masks and bars had big parties – that was bad because business owners were left to enforce the local ordinances.  The situation may lead us into a spike in cases that you can see at the left has NOT continued the downward trend in Florida. Pinellas County numbers also have not continued downward, but inched higher.

If there is good news, deaths continue to go lower. It appears that younger people have a lower mortality rate, and that is where most of the new cases are coming from. In addition, doctors are finding better ways to treat covid-19 patients, which leads to fewer deaths.

RESTAURANT NOTES: Both Maggie Mae’s and Backwaters continue to keep you safe. We monitor each employee daily with temperature checks. Everything is cleaned constantly and table spacing is required.

The county says just call this number to schedule a FREE covid-19 test – 727-824-8181 – there are four locations to choose from here. Many pharmacies are beginning to have drive through test sites at varying costs. We are also being told the Florida Department of Health can help with tests by calling 727-824-6900
