Covid-19 Update Florida 6-24-2020

FLORIDA SETS RECORD FOR SINGLE DAY NEW CASES (5500+) – DEATH RATE GOES DOWN
While deaths from the coronavirus fall to the lowest levels in months, new cases set records! Clearly there seems to be more people in the 25-45 age bracket contracting the disease . However, the severity seems to be minimized to the point there are people who show no symptoms and only discover they have covid-19 through testing.
PINELLAS COUNTY VOTES FOR MASK ORDINANCE
RULES EFFECTIVE TODAY AT 5 PM
Last night, after an eight hour discussion, Pinellas County commissioners vote 6 to 1 to require almost everyone to wear masks. Specifically:

  • All employees of businesses serving the public will be required to wear masks.
  • All guests entering and leaving restaurants will be required to wear masks until properly seated.
  • Customers must be seated to be served in a restaurant or bar (no crowds).
  • Parties of less than ten shall be seated at a properly distanced location.
  • Businesses must enforce the requirements or face civil penalties of $100 for first offense, $250 for second offense and could face closure.
  • Individuals not complying with the ordinance may also be fined.
  • Exceptions to the order include children under 18 years of age, people with respiratory disabilities and people working in non-customer areas that are properly socially distanced.

One key element discussed is that bars that continue to pack people in without proper distancing will lose their license. Large crowds are the reason for the increase in covid-19 cases, according to the advisors to the commission. See more information here.

NOTE: Backwaters and Maggie Mae’s will provide masks to guests who don’t have a mask or forget theirs.

HELP MAY BE ON THE WAY It is encouraging to see that dozens of large companies are competing to find both treatments and a cure for covid-19. It is unprecedented to see this many giants in the pharmaceutical industry working in the same direction. Check out the list of drugs and vaccines in various stages at this list from National Institute of Health. Here is the list of descriptions and potential treatments.    The county says just call this number to schedule a FREE covid-19 test – 727-824-8181 – there are four locations to choose from here. Even drug stores are beginning to have drive through test sites at varying costs.
