Covid-19 Update – July 1, 2020

This weekend our 4th of JULY celebration will bring people from all over the country to our beaches. Some people blame the large crowds that gathered for Memorial Day caused Florida’s spike in new coronavirus cases. We can only hope people will figure out that social distancing is the only way to prevent covid-19 from spreading. Masks and face shields will help perhaps, but staying 6 feet away from other people works!
COVID-19 AND FOOD Our restaurants continually keep up to date about the coronavirus and impacts related to food. We thought some of the questions and information should be publicized here.

Q. Can you get the virus from food?
CDC officials say there’s no evidence of COVID-19 being transmitted through food, even if someone handling it coughs or sneezes nearby.
The coronavirus is mostly spread from one person to another through respiratory droplets. However, it’s always critical to follow the 4 key steps of food safety—clean, separate, cook, and chill—to prevent foodborne illness.

As an extra precaution to help avoid the transmission of COVID-19 through surface contact, we recommend frequent washing and sanitizing of all food contact surfaces and utensils.

Q. Can you get coronavirus from water?
There’s no evidence that the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread through drinking water or use of pools or hot tubs, according to the CDC.

Q. What do I need to know about food shopping during the pandemic?
There are steps you can take to help protect yourself, grocery store workers and other shoppers, such as wearing a face covering, practicing social distancing, and using wipes on the handles of the shopping cart or basket.
