Florida Hush Puppies
We have lots of fish in Florida. Nothing goes better with fresh fish than good old fashioned hush puppies. This is an easy recipe with extra flavor we use in Florida.
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp Minced Dried Onions regenerated in 1/3 cup of water
- 2 ea Large Eggs
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 cup Self Rising Corn Meal
- 1 cup Self Rising Flour
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Beat Eggs with a whisk for 30 seconds
- In a separate bowl combine sugar, flour and cornmeal
- Combine the eggs and onions and mix into the sugar/flour mixture. Mix until the texture of biscuit dough.
- Heat oil to 350 degrees. Add large rounded tablespoons of dough to il. Fry turning occasionally for 4 minutes until golden brown. Makes about 18-20 Hush Puppies.
Notes
Of course, you could use real onions, but the regenerated onions in the water add a unique flavor. These are easy to make on a stove top to go with any fresh fish. Great with shrimp and grits too! Great side with any seafood dish.
