Maggie Mae’s Party Potato Salad Recipe

Maggie Mae's Potato Salad for a party

  • 5 pounds potatoes cubed 1/2 inch or less
  • 2.5 cups mayonaise
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 Tbsp. cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1.5 tablespoons celery seed
  • 5 each hard boiled eggs sliced
  • 2 Tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 cups celery chopped
  • 1.5 tablespoons sugar
  • 3/4 cup cups sweet pickle relish
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayene pepper (optional)
  • 3/4 cup Optional - onions chopped fine


  • Boil diced potatoes in salted for 20 minutes or until just fork tender (do not overcook)
  • Drain water. Cool potatoes with tap water to room temperature.
  • While waiting for potatoes to cool, in a large bowl Combine salad ingredients and mix thoroughly. Reserve sliced eggs. Fold mixed ingredients into potatoes gently.
  • Top the potato salad with sliced eggs for serving.
  • Optional - for serving you can sprinkle paprika or chop the green tops of scallions for color.


This is a versatile potato salad recipe. You can add ingredients or reduce ingredients at your pleasure. We have added bacon, finely chopped onions and even jalapenos at different times. You can experiment with types of potatoes also. This is a great potato salad recipe for a party or large gathering.
