Florida Travel Blog has put together the answers to all your questions about where to visit in Florida, along with our thoughts on the most popular destinations in Florida.

See the actual numbers from 2024 Florida tourism statistics and their meaning.

What Are the Most Popular Attractions in Florida?

If you haven’t heard of Disney World, then you haven’t discovered the most popular attraction in Florida, and the most popular attraction in the United States.

Consider these statistics:
    • Last year, Disney World had over 48 million visitors.
    • Magic Kingdom alone had over 17 million guests, with the three other parks making up the total.
    • The park covers over 25,000 acres, roughly the size of the city of San Francisco.
    • Disney World has over 70,000 employees and is the largest single-site employer in the world.

While Disney World is the clear attraction leader in Florida, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has helped Universal to rank second in terms of visitor numbers.

As you can see, Disney is the most visited attraction in Florida, but it is far from being the only reason people come to Florida.

In fact, not far away is Universal Studios Orlando which attracted a whopping 21 million visitors in 2024. Their three parks have attractions like The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Super Nintendo World, Spiderman Adventures, Islands of Adventure, and a new park opening in 2025.

Universal is clearly the second most visited attraction in Florida.

Ten Most Visited Attractions in Florida (after Disney & Universal)

Fortunately, Florida is a huge state and many more cool places to visit in Florida combine to equal the 142 million people that visited the state in 2024. The top two visitor magnets don’t get all the glory!

Below are the Top Ten Attractions in Florida after Disney and Universal:

The Ten Most Visited Attractions in Florida (excl. Disney & Universal)

We have already covered the top two attractions in Florida, Disney World and Universal Studios. Below we outline the top ten Florida attractions after the two behemoths!

SeaWorld – Another Orlando theme park that children and adults love. It features a water park and sea creature amenities.

Kennedy Space Center – In our top five must-see places in Florida. There are 600 acres of NASA history along with projections for the future. Allow two days to fully view this attraction.

LEGOLAND – While not part of Orlando’s metropolitan area, the park and hotels are about a 45-minute ride away. Few recent generations have grown up with an introduction to Lego building blocks!

Airboat in Everglades
An airboat ride in the Everglades is one of the many things to do.

Everglades National Park – Another one of our top five must-see attractions in Florida. With 1.5 million acres of an ecosystem unlike anything else in the world, The Everglades offer natural sights that will thrill all ages.

Naples Zoo – From Panthers to alligators, you will see animals like you have never see them before in natural settings surrounded by beautiful gardens. Naples, Florida is also at the edge of The Everglades.

The Florida Aquarium – Located in Tampa Florida, the Florida Aquarium is one of the best in Florida. Tampa also is the home to Busch Gardens, Ybor City and the two-mile-long Riverwalk.

St. Augustine Historic District – The city of St. Augustine is itself an attraction. History abounds throughout. Perhaps more historic buildings than anywhere in America.

Your stay in Clearwater Beach is not complete unless you visit Clearwater Marine Aquarium.

Clearwater Marine Aquarium – This attraction is a highlight of Clearwater Beach, one of the most visited beaches in Florida. It is also the home of the late Winter the Dolphin of movie fame.

Icon Park – Another Orlando theme park, much smaller than its better-known competitors (and much less expensive). It is known for its “Orlando Eye“.

Gatorland – Located between Orlando and Kissimmee, Florida, this fun attraction has been treating people for decades. Definitely a thrill for kids and adults. Gatorland should be on your Florida bucket list.

The Ten Most Visited Cities in Florida (excl. Orlando)

While we have seen the theme park-laden Orlando area gets quite a number of visitors, this central Florida city is not the only place people want to visit.

Below is a chart showing the top ten most visited cities in Florida (excluding Orlando). After the chart, see our reasons why people visit these Florida towns and what they experience.

Why People Visit These Most Popular Florida Cities

Each of the cities below have unique qualities that drive tourism. Based on our observations, as residents of Florida, here are our evaluations.

    • Miami – Florida’s largest city in the southeast corner of the state. Known for beautiful Atlantic Coast beaches, upscale shopping, trendy restaurants and luxurious resorts. Cons: Traffic can be busy, areas are expensive, and beaches can be crowded.
    • Tampa – Florida’s third-largest city on the west central coast. Known for multiple attractions like Busch Gardens, The Florida Aquarium, Ybor City and just 45 minutes from one of Florida’s best beaches, Clearwater Beach. Cons: No beaches in downtown Tampa, on Tampa Bay, not the Gulf of Mexico.
    • Ft. Lauderdale – known as Florida’s original Spring Break mecca, the city is built around a beautiful east coast beach. Known for entertainment, cultural diversity and beachside affordable resorts. Cons: Traffic can be congested, not considered Florida’s Spring Break central anymore, and housing is expensive.
    • Key West – admittedly our favorite city in Florida for tourists. We travel here 3-4 times per year. Known for its tropical climates, entertainment-rich Duval Street, laid-back atmosphere and many attractions. Beautiful island views make this like a Caribbean island in the United States. Cons Key West may not be the best family-oriented location, very warm in summer and can be expensive during events and seasonal peaks.
    • Naples – one of the best locations for people who love shopping and beaches. Excellent Gulf Coast resorts for families and couples. Gateway to the Everglades and doorstep to Marco Island. Cons: can be pricey shopping, traffic can be difficult in season, seems more exclusive than it is.
    • St. Augustine – for history buffs, the best city in Florida. Many attractions and fun things to do in the Historical District. Plenty of museums, tours, horse-drawn carriages, and quaint streets. Budget-friendly hotels available. Cons: lots to do, but all history-related. Limited access to beaches, but available nearby.
    • Sarasota – one of the best Gulf coast towns for relaxation along the Gulf. Many family-friendly resorts. Superb downtown restaurants and attractions including the Ringling Museum. Cons: very busy during winter months.
    • Destin – our favorite city in the Panhandle of Florida. Known for its half-mile HarborWalk with loads of family-oriented things to do. Many white sandy beaches and resorts on the Gulf. Great place to go to avoid the heat and humidity of the summer in southern Florida. Cons: traffic can be heavy in small growing town and no nearby big airports.
      Clearwater Beach and Pier 60
Clearwater Beach and Pier 60 has consistently been ranked as one of Florida’s top three destinations for many years. The pure white fluffy sand and the multitude of things to do bring people from around the world.
    • Clearwater – Home to one of Florida’s best beaches, Clearwater Beach. Also, for full disclosure, our home! We think it is the best town for family vacations on the west coast of Florida. Many things to see and do. The island is walkable to everything. Cons: being so popular, it can get crowded, Resorts taking over less expensive small hotels.
    • Palm Beach – despite being in an upscale community, the Atlantic Coast beaches are accessible. Known for the many water sports available and a bustling downtown for shopping and superb restaurants. Cons: as with many southeast Florida communities, traffic can be congested. Some resorts along the coast are pricey.
