Florida Panhandle

Florida’s Panhandle is where I go when I want that “old Florida + jaw-dropping beach” combo in one trip.

destin beaches
If you like to visit beaches, there are miles of beaches near the Panhandle city of Destin.

This region stretches from Pensacola and Perdido Key across the Emerald Coast (Destin, Miramar Beach, 30A) to Panama City Beach, then east toward the quieter, wilder side of the coast around Cape San Blas, St. Joseph Peninsula, Apalachicola, and St. George Island.

The sand really is as white as people say, the water can turn that unreal turquoise on calm days, and the vibe changes dramatically depending on which towns you choose.

What makes the Panhandle special is how many totally different Florida trips you can build here. You can do a classic family beach week on the Emerald Coast, a laid-back “bike to dinner” stay along Scenic Highway 30A, or a nature-first getaway with dunes, trails, and state parks.

travel to Destin Florida Harborwalk
Harborwalk in Destin is our favorite half-mile walkway in Florida. Shops, water sports and charter boats line the waterfront.

This area is packed with iconic outdoor spots—think dune lakes, coastal forests, boardwalks, and some of the state’s best beach parks—plus small Gulf towns where seafood shacks, sunsets, and quiet mornings are the main event.

On this Panhandle hub page, I’ll keep it practical and easy to plan. You’ll find guides by area (Emerald Coast vs. Forgotten Coast), what to do beyond the beach, where to stay depending on your travel style, and timing tips—because the Panhandle is very seasonal.

Spring and early summer are beautiful but can be busy, late summer brings heat and afternoon storms, and fall is a sweet spot for fewer crowds and warm water. Whether you’re coming for a weekend road trip or a full beach vacation, this page is designed to help you pick the right stretch of coast and build a trip that feels like the Panhandle you’re hoping for.
