Gas Price Trends: As of May 10, Florida’s average gas price sits around $4.32 per gallon. While this is an increase from April due to summer travel demand, it remains significantly lower than the national average, which spiked toward $4.55 this week.
Environmental Status: As of May 8, 2026, Florida Fish and Wildlife (FWC) reports that Red Tide is at “Background” or “Not Present” levels statewide. Beaches in Sarasota, Collier, and the Panhandle are currently clear of respiratory irritation and fish kills.
Everglades National Park area wildfire along US-41: smoke + possible temporary road closures. NPS warned of smoke impacts along U.S. Route 41 and that temporary road closures could happen if conditions worsened. Local coverage also reported closures affecting the US-41 corridor area and some nearby Everglades businesses/airboat operators during the fire response. Practical tip: if you’re doing Shark Valley / US-41 (Tamiami Trail) drives in late April/May, check park “Current Conditions” before you go.
