This list is compiled by Florida residents who are familiar with the destinations below.

Top 10 beaches in Florida 2025 All of our choices are the result of actual visits over many years of travel in Florida. You can view our methodology.

However, it was simply a point system that we graded over 40 beaches in Florida on:

    • Sand quality
    • Water clarity
    • Nearby activities
    • Parking
    • Size
    • Crowds

Plus, other factors only visitors would know.

Our results were similar to a couple other lists, but the overall results included locations non-Floridians may not consider.

The 10 Best Beaches in Florida

Clearwater Beach on the Gulf

#1 Clearwater Beach

This number one pick should not be a surprise. Clearwater Beach has been at the top of every major list of the top beaches in Florida for many years. A beautiful beach, miles of white powder sand, tons of activities,  a busy marina and a famous marine aquarium all come together for a family friendly memorable experience.

Siesta Beach is wide and long.

#2 Siesta Key Beach

Another island beach that is highly rated on many worldwide lists. Located near Sarasota, this wide beach offers white, cool sand, acres of parking and a quaint downtown with shops, restaurants and art galleries.  With Sarasota just across a bridge, all the attractions in this Gulf community are just minutes away.

best florida beach - caladesi

#3 Caladesi Island Beach

Located in Caladesi Island State Park, this beach has the feel of a remote Caribbean island beach. Accessible by a 20-minute ferry boat ride, the island offers wildlife trails,  public boat docks, shelters and a consession cafe. Small crowds, clear water and sandy shores greet visitors seeking a more adventurous beach.

Beaches on the Gulf Coast of Florida St. George Island

#4 St. George Island Beach

Several miles of the beaches on this 28-mile-long island are located within St. George Island State Park. Located in the Florida Panhandle, this rarely crowded beach is widely known for great bird watching, fishing, and long days of lounging on the beach. Nearby is the quaint Gulf Coast town of Apalachicola.

St. Pete Beach

#5 St. Pete Beach

St. Pete Beach never gets the recognition it deserves because it is just 15 miles south of Clearwater Beach. Yet the sandy beaches have white sand and wide paths along the Gulf. Hotels and restaurants line the beach for 3 miles. There are plenty of activities, such as paddleboarding, parasailing, jet skiing, and much more. Public parking is available in several locations.

Beaches in Florida Cocoa Beach

#6 Cocoa Beach

Cocoa Beach would not be on our list except for one reason – it is part of the Space Coast. It is pretty cool to sit on this Atlantic coast beach and watch a rocket launch! The beach is very busy and there are many things to do nearby, including visiting the Kennedy Space Center nearby. This is also the surfing capital of Florida.

amelia island beach is known for

#7 Amelia Island Beach

The island is 13 miles long and the beaches extend almost the entire length along the Atlantic Ocean. Many have public access and parking. The real fun about Amelia Island is the things to do, including historical walks to horseback riding on the beach. Fernandina is a small town with a lively downtown that is an attraction for tourists.

Florida Highway 30A Beach Grayton Beach

#8 Grayton State Park Beach

This beach is nestled among several beautiful beaches along the famed Route 30A in the Panhandle. People flock to this park for refuge from all the commercial activity in the area. A budget-friendly state park is a relief from the expensive surroundings.

Honeymoon Island Beach

#9 Honeymoon Island State Park Beach

Located near Dunedin, this island is rustic, yet its sands stretch for miles along the Gulf Coast. Known as a locals’ beach because its neighbors are two other famous beaches. Weekdays are the best days to go when crowds are thin and parking is a breeze.

John Peenekamp Coral Reef State Park Key Largo clearest water in Florida

#10 John Pennekamp State Park Beach

Located in Key Largo, you won’t find this beach on many top ten lists, mainly because it is relatively small. But the water is clear, and there are so many things to do in and around the park that it should be a must-visit. The park is also known for its trips to offshore reefs for some of the best diving and snorkeling in the world!

Soon we will be publishing the ranking for all forty-plus beaches. We cannot claim to have been in every single beach in Florida, but welcome suggestions for next year’s rankings.

Notes About Beach Choices

State Parks – There are a large number of Florida state parks on our lists(s). It should be noted that most are considered public despite a nominal fee to enter. Most are $6 to $8 per car.

Top 10 beaches in Florida Clearwater Beach Remote Beaches – We did not include many remote beaches either because getting there was difficult or there was no regular public transportation. That includes places like Cayo Costa, Keewaydin Beach, Shell Beach and others.

Private Beaches – There are a number of beaches around the state that are either partially or completely private. Examples include the beaches behind the resorts in Marco Island, Naples and various small island communities. We do not include beaches that are private.

East Coast Beaches – We don’t have many beaches included in the Top 10 Beaches in Florida on the Atlantic Coast. There are some beautiful beaches, but the methodology numbers are lower when it comes to sand quality, water clarity and parking. Several West Coast beaches are included in the top 20 ratings to be released soon. Places like Biscayne Bay, St. Augustine Beach and Delray Beach will be noted in those rankings.

Panhandle Beaches – Some of the most beautiful beaches in Florida are in the Panhandle. In fact,  in a 50 mile stretch from Navarre to Rosemary Beach, there are beaches with perfect white sand, crystal clear waters and many amenities. The problems with those beaches are a combination of access, parking, family suitability, privacy and crowds.

Despite some of the negative factors, many of these beaches are part of our top 20 beaches in Florida and all of them are in our top 50.

Why Florida Has Some of the Best Beaches in the World

Florida has some of the best beaches in the world thanks to its unique geography and subtropical-to-tropical climate.

With over 1,300 miles of coastline bordered by both the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean, the state is blessed with a wide variety of beach landscapes. Facts About Top 10 Beaches in Florida

From powdery white sand and crystal-clear waters to rugged dunes and natural barrier islands, Florida’s coastal regions are incredibly diverse and naturally beautiful. Warm temperatures year-round mean you can enjoy the beach nearly any time, whether you’re swimming in July or watching sunsets in January.

Another reason Florida beaches stand out is their accessibility and variety. Travelers can choose from lively urban beaches like South Beach in Miami, family-friendly favorites like Clearwater Beach and Siesta Key Beach, or remote and untouched escapes like those in the Florida Keys or along the Forgotten Coast.

Many of these beaches are award-winning and consistently rank high on international lists for their cleanliness, amenities, and scenic value. Plus, Florida’s beach towns often come with bonus perks—charming boardwalks, wildlife preserves, fresh seafood, and vibrant local culture.

Finally, the state’s dedication to beach preservation and tourism ensures that its coastal gems remain welcoming and unspoiled. Florida has invested in maintaining beach quality through environmental protection, dune restoration, and marine conservation efforts.

No matter if you’re looking to surf, sunbathe, paddleboard, collect shells, or watch dolphins play in the surf, Florida’s beaches offer a world-class experience that keeps visitors coming back again and again.
