Marco Island: Hidden Gems – Most Visitors Miss These
Marco Island is known for its beaches and resorts—but if you stick to just the main spots, you’re missing the real magic.
We visit Marco a couple of times each year – we thought we knew the island. We were wrong!
On our last visit (April 2026), our hasty decision to travel found our normal hotels full. Old standbys, like Marco Hilton Beach Resort and the JW Marriott, were full.
We chose a hotel near our favorite restaurant, the Snook Inn, on the north end of the island.
We found that the best experiences aren’t always the obvious ones. The true charm of Marco Island is tucked away in quiet beaches, local hangouts, and places most visitors never hear about!
If you’re looking for hidden gems on Marco Island, here are the spots that are absolutely worth your time.
Olde Marco Island Inn & Suites
This older, yet renovated hotel was on a back street most people never see. The Inn was charming, comfortable and far less expensie that the beachside resorts.
This was just the beginning of our experience.
Location -100 Palm Street, Marco Island, 34145

The Shops of Olde Marco
Adjacent to the Inn, the Shops of Olde Marco was a two-story building loaded with quaint shops, art galleries, home goods, restaurants and bars. Places we had never heard of or seen in 20 years of visits to Marco!
The video in this article gives you a sense of the businesses located here, but some of the highlights are below.
- Leebe Restaurant & Seafood Market – The restaurant serves the freshest fish on Marco. Whatever comes off the boats docked on the island is served as their fresh catch. Everything from grouper to tripletail may end up on your plate. Check out Leebe Restaurant.
- Smith House Restaurant – If breakfast is on your mind, don’t miss this gem. The Smith House serves everything from fresh pastries to stylish omelets.
- Boardroom Tavern – Ready to belly up to some great entertainment. Not only does the Boardroom serve your favorite libations, but they offer nightly entertainment in an outdoor setting. Generally start about 6 PM and fills up quickly, as we found out.
- Assorted Shops – clothing, home decorations, artwork and many other quaint boutiques. Browse local island vibes.
